  • Tokyo 2010 – 1

Tokyo is still one of the busiest city in Asia, been here so many times, the people here are always in a hurry , you can see all these people rushing for their trains, underground transports, and even crossing the road throughout the day.

On the day of arrival I checked-in my favourite Keio Plaza Hotel  Tokyo at Shinjuku, with the 24 hrs free in-room internet, I actually did my last xanga entry about my JL flight while waiting my friend who flew from HK to join me.

the beauty of a modern city, my friend eventually arrived pass 2330, after freshen up, we went for our late dinner at one of the 24 hours  Japanese Curry chain store Co Co Curry.

Next day morning though we were late  and couldn’t see the actually market operation we still went to The Tsukji Fish Market and queued up for food….

At last my friend picked to try the KaisenDon because the queue was shorter than the famous Sushi place  Sushi One we eventually waited for 45 minutes……and was totally worth of cause…..

a kind of the protest from the market people……?

    Then head to the Odaiba

The Fuji Television, and the Toyota show room

    Want a new…..car? of just a people mover…?

Going for a ride, and the Haneda Airport is quite near…….

at night went back to Shinjuku to have a nice Tempura at again my favourite store…

look ordinary but taste soo good, crispy and not oily, your stomach will feel good…

prawn and eel I usually don’t eat eel, but I finished this….

Typical way for tourist to have fresh fruit….at this famous fruit shop Hyakkaen, then a dessert at a  small local cafe.

Ramen as breakfast at the train station…. and then coffee at the Excelsior caffee

after a little bit of shopping, headed back to the hotel and getting ready for the DisneySea day this is the very first time I went to the Tokyo Disney Resort by the free shuttle, which save my legs for walking too much…

(A new building just opposite to my hotel)

    we’re the only passengers

DisneySea is ready for the Halloween

I was at this Haunted Mansion 4 years ago, but the waiting time was 3 hours, I did the free fall ride this time!

on this visit I had quite a lot of food inside Disney……

the sanck and the special Halloween set

once it’s dark  it’s the famous show : BraviSEAmo  where the spirit of water meets the spirit of fire…

a quick light dinner of the deli stuff…

Aida?…not quite…..! last but not least the fire works

finally having some Disney dessert before leaving…..

ok u actually paid for this special Halloween plate with the dessert. The next morning, Breakfast a western and and Onigiri (one with sour plum and the other salted salmon)

and a Onigiri with sour plum and salted salmon then another coffee round

touring around the Imperial Palace Area and eventually met the Rudest Tourists from the biggest land of the East Asia……who won’t care of others, just talking loud, no patient to wait for their turn, and just walk pass while you are trying to take a picture…….

Lunch at the Tokyo Station and ahd these Okinawa cuisine, the prok ribs don and the Bitter melon set.

soft iccream of vanilla and green tea flavour,,,,

Dinner at Shibuya self-service Udon store then an Ic-cream from Cold-Stone

so far this is the only place I’ve paid tips  cos they sang for me………

    to be continued………

  • Flight Report JL017

Whenever I want to go to Tokyo, I usually take JAL from Vancouver directly, 8 years ago(2002) I tried their Seaons Executive class which was the very old Big seat with and IFE system of 9 video channels(at the same time our company was offering the Flat Bed a.k.a the sliding bed with an AVOD IFE system with 25 movies, 20 videos, 50 CDs….)

Yesterday I flew on JAL Biz class again and despite they hv changed their seat to the sliding one, they have cut a lot on offering inflight.

First thing after checked-in, I went to their Sakura Lounge, a cosy enviroment, with the help your self style of service, so I grabbed their own brand of cup udon and a drink for my breakfast, once finished just return used item to the designated area for disposal.  Once on board the upper deck of the B744, it’s like meeting an old friend cos the layout is 90% the same as out old seat  60″ seat pitch how are you? Havn’t seen you for a long time!

    005 015

As I remember JAL doesn’t offer personal amenity kits, just the tooth brush set, ear plug, however I do like their slippers, and now they offer the refreshing face and eye masks instead of the bottled moisturizers

    021 022

The slippers and the headset. as before no Welcome Drinks on ground, so you normallly have your first drinks after take off.

    023 027

First meal with 3 choices, the Western, Chinese, or Japanese, I chose the Japanese  one, with the main dish of grilled Salmon which was quite good

    028 030

Since there were no cheese and fruit offered the last course would be the dessert, however as they use the same caterer in Vancouver as us, I actually tried both of these desserts before…then visisted the wash room….so far the most dull looking one I’ve seen in Biz class

    032 034

oh the vintage Airshow(Map) actually on the flight they were using their Magic II IFE which only has 14 choices on both movies and videos….between meals they don’t have much too offer either the cup noodles which I had  at the lounge or these pre-packed cakes from Japan..

    036 039

Second meal…..I chose the Western…..cos I wanted to have some fruits…..at least they use the creamer from Japan

    042 043

    044

Their cabin crew are courteous, the Japanese ones were polite but tend to be more proactive only when interact with Japanese pax maybe because of their English, I actually understood only about 60% of what they were saying…the one from HKG…hm….well I should have talked with her in English just to test her out…hahahaha

Overall I cannot say they are Bad…the experience just like I was sitting on a Premium Economy Class instead of a real Biz Class,  their tray is actully the  Economy class one with the differences of removing the plastic wrap for the cutlery and using a couple more of chinaware i.e. cup and plates and the offering of the Japanese meal choices..

For sure if I had to pay full fare  to fly Biz class on JAL, I would have chosen other options..

  • Autumn-Break SEP2010

After another 4 months of work, it’s time to have a break, preparing to fly to Tokyo this  Wed (the Mid-Autumn Festival).  Flying on the biggest airlines in Asia – Japan Airlines and so surprised to know that they don’t have   advance on-line check-in service until 21OCT…….

I admit  that I’ve been spoiled by so many airlines over the years…..including my employer (cos we can do everything on-line even for staff travel) or I should have booked a flight to LAX and catch my beloved SQ instead……to TYO.

  • A lazy afternoon at the HK Disneyland Hotel

It’s another hot day in HKG last Tuesday, a couple of friends thinking of having an afternoon tea, since I just arrived HKG on that morning, one of them suggested to go to the Disneyland Hotel at the Lantau island.

So all of us took  the MTR  train to the Sunnybay station where you can interchange to the Disneyland line, after the magical ride once you exit the station keep going left, (as the right is to the theme park) you will see the shuttle bus terminal , where the bus will bring you to the 2 hotels at the resort area..

Oh a live pianist at the lobby, reminds me of my late father who used to play at the Mandarin Hotel’s Grill Room  in Central Hong Kong.

We had the two different sets, the Victorian and the Asian

The Victorian is basically the usual stuff, while the Asian includes the tandoori chix, malaysain beef satay as well as some Chinese Dim Sum. Though the portion isa bit small,  the quality is good!

of course you will see a lot of Mickey Mouse ………..

Since the quality is not bad we also tried out some other sutff

A club Sandwich covered with Fries…….Fried chix wings with tomatoe and the pineapple(Salsa?)

    and  a salad….

it’s just so relaxing to have a light meal, chatting with good friends and watching the Sun sets…..

  • Another phone in 2 years

It’s been nearly 2 years since I started using the iPhone 3G, and over these 2 years Apple did offer 2 different types of iPhones to the market the 3Gs and the 4. Since my phone has been working perfectly I have no intention to make any changes, I have not even upgrade my phone with the latest software as been told that, it will ruin the performance with the oldest iPhone.

Though I am not a gadget follower, I eventually  got the new phone by  just extending my contract with the service provider.

For sure Apple will introduce a a model every year, but still as long as this one is working, I think I am not going to change it too soon!

  • Time to eat again…..

Lunch at the LGB Elements mall Kowloon

    Egg Benedict,   Salad Nicoise

Seafood Risotto with chilli  mushroom sauce

All you can eat Shanghainese food at  Queen Palace (帝后殿)  Wan Chai  Michelin HK/Macau Guide 2010 recommendation

All you can eat  dinner menu HKD198/pp (Mon – Thurs 15% off) excluding the Xiao Lun Bao(Pork Dumplings)

The best dish we had for that evening…we had this order twice….forgot the name, it’s a wrap with Shanghainse Ham (honey glazed), Cucumber, fried bean-curd

Another Michelin HK/Macau Guide 2009 recommendation but his one is a 1 Star:

    Tim’s Kitchen(桃花源小廚) Sheung Wan

I highly recommend this place  however when booking for a table remember to ask for special  dishes to be  reserved which we didn’t, what a pity and the price of the  dish  is mostly based on per person.

the complimentary appetizer Baby ginger slices with the Century Egg(Pi-dan) actually it’s as good as those you have at the Yung Kee Restaurant in Central

Goose Meat Roll, and the Crystal Prawn

Special Winter-melon Soup ( 冬瓜盎) and the Pomelo(inner skin) with the shrimp sauce(蝦籽柚皮)

Fried Noodle with Crab Meat Sauce (蟹肉炒麵) sounds simple, but the noodle is  very crispy  and not oily….
