Month: May 2010

  • A ‘B’ Saturday

It was such a day on Saturday…….

In the morning got a call from the office to noperate the afternoon flight back to HKG…how nice, that means it will be an extra trip for this month…..

Rushed to the office to attend the preflight briefing…..everything seems normal except the Inflight Manager mention she would like to test us later for how well we will perform a secuirty check once borad the aircraft…..hm…interesting….is this for fun or serious? Anyway…. briefed my junior crew to perform all kinds of checks thoroughly….

At the gate….wow….. why so many Vancouver airport authorities and the Royal Mounted Police, Custom Officer, gathered around…..hm…..something not normal even the cockpit crew couldn’t board the aircraft. The ground staff told us that the aircraft would have  a thorough Security Search  and wil lbe towed away from the passenger terminal, at the waiting area, all pax, crew, staff memeber needed to move at least 250 feet away from the original boarding gate….ok being in the business for so long we knew what is happening…a Bomb Threat but we could not release and say anything cos the authority did not confirm anything about it. And since the whole situation was taken over by the local authorities we all could only follow their instruction

We then went to have lucnh at the airport restaurant and wait at another area for further information, while we wre waiting, we got online and with the power of FaceBook , informaiton been released…the airport received totally 3   Bomb Threat phone calls from a local mall pay phone, the first one claiming a bomb on board the incoming aircraft, the 2nd claiming the bomb is at the airport area, the 3rd one claiming that the bomb will be on the outing going flight…therefore the authorities took a serious measure  and snet 2 Flighters to escort the incoming aircraft to land….following are the pic taken by my co-worker who was traveling on that flight back home..

Luckily the aircraft landed safely, and all incoming pax had to go to security search too…..

after nearly 5 hours on ground delay the authority annouced the incident was a Hoax and we were clear to board the flight and operate back to HKG

By the time I got into my hotel room…..I just realised I was awake over 24 hours….

  • What it’s 10? Shouldn’t it be 20?

Last Thursday night at the  company’s  Spring Dinner Party I was presented with a 10th year of service award along with a couple of others colleagues. Really, I have never thought of working at one company for this long.

I first joined this company in 1989 while I was living in Hong Kong, working at the airport, after being scolded and tortured by the boss and the clients for so many years, I left and moved to Vancouver Canada in 1996,  spent 3 years there being on and off  from jobs,  just 2 months before I decided to move back to Hong Kong, I was offered to rejoin  this company  and have to chance to go back and forth to Hong Kong very frequently.

If you asked me, is this the best company to work for? hm……..then I have to say,  in my opinion there is no best company or boss around, neither a Commercial Company( they are so  concentrated on making  a profit) nor a Government/Charity Division ( they do have a Budget governing them). So as I evaluate my current job condition:  a reasonable pay and working hours, plus the fringe benefits provided by the company, I think it’s nice to work for this company, and appreciated the connection with her for nearly 20 years.

    Oh yes ….to Appreciate

  • Enjoying those HKG style BBQ meat…..

After a 2 weeks absent from HKG, I was back on Mon finally, and eventually I had different kinds of HK Style BBQ meat for 3 consecutive nights…..

Monday at the Tai Hing Restaurant Causeway Bay branch,

A Roast Goose and  Roast Pork on Steam Rice, a Clay-pot Stir-fried Chinese Greens with chilli sauce

The goose meat was soo juicy and the roasted skin was crispy, the taste of the  plum sauce on the side was just right, not too sweet…. and green was such a popular dish, nearly every table had one order of it….

A fusion  Bake Roast Pork  with Wasabi(Japanese horseradish) Creme Sauce on Fried Rice, very interesting, and the taste of the Japanese Wasabi was  a bit too strong to my taste……..I was tearing while having ths dish..

Tuesday before having dinner I saw the Iron Man Promotion at the Miramar Hotel shopping centre

Dinneer at the Very Good Seafood Restaurant at Tsim Sha  Tsui,  a restaurant which you can find some lost  old cantonese dishes in Hong Kong

Roast Pork Belly, and the Braised Soy Sauce Chicken in a clay pot

Stir-fried Pigeon (squab) meat  and vegetable, steamed eggplant with dried seafood
while the stir fried one was not everyone’s cup of tea, the egg plant dishes was full of flavour….

    Cashew Nut Sweet Soup

Wednesday went for a walk at the Elemets Mall  and they are having this Art-nail exhibition by Noboru Tomizawa

At night before I  prepared to get back to Vancouver had the BBQ Pork in pot stewed Sauce and Steamed Chicken on Rice….at the food court outlet…..
