shark’s fins soup
hm…..haven’t had one real good shark’s fins soup for a long time…..last Friday had one at a Chinese Restaurant in YVR location 41st and Granville (thank you Mr Lee for a lovely dinner). Though it’s not my favourite ”Tin Gau Chee” I used to have at my Ex-partner’s home in HKG, It’s one of the best I have in YVR.
Both in HKG and YVR we can have the smae quality of the shark’s fin but the soup base is somehow different. To broil the clear soup there are 3 main ingredients: the Chicken, Pork and the Old Aged Chinese Ham, however the Chicken being used in North American is being critizied by the Chinese from asia as tasteless while the Ham is not permitted to be imported into Canada. Without them the soup will be less tasteful, some restaurants will have no choice to add MSG which will ruin the whole experience, because of the after taste and being thristy afterwards.
The soup I had on Friday night was above average without the taste of MSG which I really appreciated of course I do miss the homemade one by my Ex with very high quality of the soup and the outrageous quantity of the shark’s fins (imgaine having the fins just like having mini noodle)
